Inauguration of Eco-Bunny at Katraj Zoo
Metro started with the mission of Eco Bricks to get rid of the monster called ‘Plastic’ and make our Mother Earth retain its beauty with a clean environment.
The idea of this project began in August 2020 and was completed in April 2021. A structure of a Bunny Rabbit made from Eco Bricks was erected in the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park at Katraj, Pune for public view.
The official inauguration of the project was done on 3rd July 2021 following all the Covid norms. The dignitaries present to grace the occasion were Mr. Yashwant Khaire, Chief Garden Superintendent (retd.), PDG Rtn. Rashmi Kulkarni,
IPP Rtn. Makarand Phadke, President Rtn. Sneha Subhedar, Mrs. Amrita Chougule – Vice-Principal Versatile School, teachers from Versatile School, the Eco Bricks team and our fellow Rotarians from RCPM. Our gratitude to Mr.Ashok
Ghorpade, Chief Garden Superintendent PMC and Dr. Rajkumar Jadhav, Director of Katraj Zoo without whom the project wouldn’t have been possible.
Inauguration was done at the hands of Mr. Khaire and PDG Rashmi. These dignitaries expressed their views about the project. Convener Ann. Arusha Majali briefed everybody about the concept and the hard work put in by the team and appreciated the contribution of the students from Versatile School. The team managed to make around 800 Eco Bricks, where each brick contained between half a kg to one kg of plastic waste.
After this first attempt of our team, our mission does not stop here. We will be targeting other public places to spread awareness and avoid plastic pollution. Every human being can contribute to this by collecting plastic wrappers and bottles that keep coming to our homes or workplaces in bulk. So, this monster called plastic created by man can be
controlled by man himself to make our Mother Earth a better place for generations to come……!
