The Awakened Citizen Program
The RamaKrishna Mission, New Delhi has developed a unique three year graded value education program titled “The Awakened Citizen Program” for students of class 6,7,8 or class 7,8,9. The basic aims of ACP are:
- the students analyse various explorations, real life situations and role models.
- think about, discuss and discover the consequences of various choices.
- get armed with a decision-making framework for life.
Rotary Club of Pune Metro has sponsered 10 schools to offer RKM’s ACP program to schools in district 3131. Two other Rotary clubs (RCP Pristine and RCP Laxmi Road) have also joined in this effort making it total of 14 schools offering the ACP. Recently, about 35 teachers from these school were trained in an online session by the Ramakrishna Mission trainers. Also, RCPM accompanied RKM’s trainers Shri Harish and Shreemati Geeta in visiting and conducting one module of ACP in classroom as an example, to the taechers who will be taeching the ACP. This was done in 11 schools. There was good interaction between the faculty of the schools and the RKM trainers, solving queries on how to accomodate the program in regular academic calender etc.
The next target is to get more teachers trained for the program. RCPM has set the target to reach 50+ schools of Rotary District in RY22-23 and has already addressed clubs in Panvel and district literacy team.
