About Tamhini: Village is some 65 km from Pune. It is the last village in Mulshi Taluka and Pune District. It is close to Raigarh District and nestled in Sahyadri mountain ranges. Tamhini is in the middle of mountains and appears like a pan (ताम्हण). Hence the name! Tamhini is blessed with nature’s bounty. Water cascading down the mountain slopes and valleys makes one forget himself/ herself. In the monsoon, foaming water and greenery entices you. Winter is romantically cold. Summer has special flowers blooming adding different hues to the nature. The region has variety of fruits and few wild animals. But Tamhini has long been ignored and deprived of basic infrastructure and development. | Village Tamhini has Poor Infrastructure Issues:

Shri Vinzaidevi High school, Tamhini, run by Sahyadri Shikshan Mandal, is operational since year 2000 in Tamhini area. Before the school was established, students had to walk some 20 km to reach the nearest school. Very few girls used to get educated. Recognizing the need of the hour, the Mandal started the School at Tamhini to fulfill educational needs of all students in the area. We are proud to state that the School has 58 girl students out of total student population of 164. Although the School is in rural area, it has maintained the tradition of 100% success in SSCE results for the last ten years. It is the number one school in Mulshi Taluka. Not only in educational field, the school is also ahead in sports department. Students have earned top positions in Mulshi Taluka. Also in elocution completions, essay writing, debates, etc., the School students have secured first rank in Mulshi Taluka. Students have also participated in competitive exams, drawing competitions, scholarship exams, etc. and have successfully cleared the same. The school always endeavors to attract boys and girls from Adivasi tribes. For this purpose, the Mandal and its generous donors have stepped in whenever required. The School has earned ISO 9001 certification in December 2014. | ![]() ![]() |

Information about Sant Gadgebaba Hostel. When Sahyadri Shikshan Mandal started the school, it was realized that students from poor family still walk some ten km daily to reach the School. As they are from poor families, they cannot stay anywhere else. Because of this constraint, the dropout rate had increased. Some orphans had to leave the school, just because they couldn’t stay. Some used to stay with someone in nearby village or in animal shelter. To offer residential facility along with good education to students from remote mountainous region, the Mandal established hostel in 2005. The hostel has resulted in providing support to poor and intelligent students. Most of our students are from mountainous areas adjoining Mulshi dam and Varasgaon dam. They are also from quite poor families. Mandal doesn’t charge them anything. This has ensured success for Mandal’s vision of bringing all in the mainstream of education. Mandal doesn’t get any grant from Government for this purpose. We are running the hostel with the help of benevolent supporters and other organizations. Recognizing good work done by the Mandal, people have supported them all the time. Hence the Mandal is able to offer service to all students since 2005. Hostel operates from June to April next year. | ![]() ![]() |
